Gerald Morgan Jr Annoying Not Funny

Notre Dame and USC have met for nearly the last century with several football contests playing a major factor in that particular season's national championship race.  The Irish have ruined title dreams of the Trojans while USC has been more than happy to return the favor several times over the years.

That was not the case in 1999.

Notre Dame and USC were in the midsts of seasons where the historic rivals would combine to go all of 11-13 as both failed to qualify for a bowl game.

That forgettable fall did at least provide a memorable October afternoon however as one of the all-time memorable games in the historic rivalry was played, although it wasn't the prettiest of football displays.

USC jumped out to a 24-3 lead on a rainy day in South Bend before Jarious Jackson started to work his magic and lead a Notre Dame comeback.  Dan O'Leary and Tony Driver scored touchdowns and a David Miller field goal helped cut the lead to 24-19 in the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame again got the ball back and drove deep into USC territory but Jackson fumbled into the end zone, only to have tight end Jabari Holloway land on it to give the Irish an improbable 25-24 lead and eventual victory that remains the second-biggest in Notre Dame history, trailing only the Joe Montana led comeback in the 1979 Cotton Bowl.

Although it wasn't pretty on either sideline that year or even that day, something about it was also downright beautiful.  Here's a look back at some images from that often overlooked "classic".
